ILLINOIS STATE MUSEUM
Educator, Illinois State Museum—Dickson Mounds
Position Title: Curatorial Position in Education (rank dependent on
qualifications and experience), Education Coordinator, Illinois State
Museum—Dickson Mounds (Full-time, State Funded)
Work Location: Dickson Mounds Museum, Lewistown, IL.
Job Description:Works with Museum Director to sustain Museum’s
educational mission.Develops, implements, and reviews school programs,
including guided tours, workshops, and demonstrations.Develops,
implements, and reviews general audience programs, including lectures
and receptions some of which will occur on weekends.Pursues grant
opportunities for the development of programs. Coordinates Museum
programs with educational partners, including the Illinois Department of
Natural Resources, The Nature Conservancy, U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service.Fosters relationships and coordinates efforts of those visitors
who are interested in volunteer opportunities with the Dickson Mounds
Museum.Periodically works weekends.
Qualifications: Minimum of an M.A. or M.S. in an education,
anthropology, ecology, and/or museum-related discipline is
preferred.Three years of experience in a discipline related to the
Museum’s mission and demonstrated experience developing and delivering
museum educational programs.Being conversant on issues that relate to
the Museum's mission (Anthropology, History, Natural History) is highly
desirable.Demonstrated success in grant writing required.Excellent
written and verbal communication skills with an aptitude for public
speaking to a broad age range of visitors, patrons, and volunteers are
required.Must be able to work with the professional, technical, and
support staff, as well as the public, in an adaptable, cooperative, and
professional manner.Computer skills in word processing, database
management, spread sheets, and desktop publishing preferred.Requires a
willingness to work extra hours to meet scheduled deadlines as necessary.
Salary and Rank:Commensurate with education and experience.
