Title: Collections management intern – Lee-Fendall House Museum, Alexandria, VA
Supervisor: Executive Director
Status: Part Time – Flexible (weekends acceptable)
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Lee-Fendall House Museum & Garden, located in Old Town Alexandria, is seeking a collections management intern. Intern responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Weekly monitoring and recording of environmental conditions (temperature, relative humidity, etc.)
- Monitoring and reporting on artifact conditions
- Cleaning of rooms and artifacts on display
- Aiding in the installation and de-installation of exhibited artifacts
- Compiling information for conservation priorities
- Helping with basic artifact conservation
- In addition, short-term, independent research projects related to the collection can be developed
Preferred Qualifications:
The intern must be flexible and willing to assist with all aspects of the organization’s work. An understanding of museum collections, basic conservation, and basic object handling is required. Excellent oral and written communication skills important. Applicant must have database experience (preferably PastPerfect) and be capable of lifting and moving objects.
