An alternative to this which we have used is to screw a wooden batten to the wall and stick the Velcro to that. The battens can be removed prior to redecoration and you only have some screw holes to fill. You can also position your screws in the joints between brick or stone work to minimise the damage to an historic structure.

Subject: Foam core on wall
We mount these kinds of panels with Velcro as suggested by others on the listserv. The different approach we take is that we use the adhesive on the foam panel, but we leave the plastic film liner on the opposite side of the Velcro and staple-gun or screw it to the wall. We then match it up and hang it. It has worked well for us and makes the eventual repair if the wall much less complicated.
Good luck!
