Please post this announcement about an important program involving liability
and exhibition in museums:
JOIN The Exhibition Alliance for a seminar about ³Presenting Art and
Artifacts in Barrier-free or Nontraditional Environments.²
Where: El Museo del Barrio, 1230 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10029
When: Monday, September 13, 2010, 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM (lunch included)
Fee: $15.00
What will happen?
1. The Seminar will be the first part of a dialogue between the museum
field, insurance professionals, artists and their representatives, and
security specialists to explore this pressing installation issue. Case
studies and questions will be discussed by the panelists and participants
with the goal that a set of best practices will be outlined for use by the
field. This gathering will provide the opportunity to raise questions,
connect expertise from various professionals, and consider solutions that
will reduce risk to visitors and artifacts in your exhibitions‹and liability
for the museum.
2. Continuing on-line dialogue will follow the seminar via TEA¹s new
website, ensuring that every opportunity is taken to explore issues related
to the seminar. Through this mechanism, we can connect professionals in the
region to the dialogue. After this discussion is completed, proposed
guidelines will be shaped.
3. The Guidelines to Best Practices will then be posted on-line for review
and finalization, with input from the field. We anticipate that these
guidelines will be as informed and inclusive as possible, providing a very
practical and useful tool for curators, registrars, and collections managers
to establish policy for exhibitions.
