Collections Management Internship Opportunity, National Law Enforcement Museum (Washington, D.C.)
Paid summer internship available. The National Law Enforcement Museum (www.LawEnforcementMuseum.org), a museum in development, is seeking an intern to assist with NLEM collection management duties.
The Collections Management Internship will encompass artifact records management, cataloging, documentation, handling, and inventory, to include:
• Processing and management of museum records, including Deeds of Gift, Receipts of Objects, and other tracking documents;
• Cataloging artifacts into FileMaker collections database;
• Basic inventory of collections;
• Handling, tagging, and re-housing of artifacts in the Museum’s off-site storage facility.
Candidates must be enrolled in a graduate-level Museum Studies program and possess strong time-management, communication, and organizational skills. Applicant must be available 32 hours per week, May 2010 through August 2010. Although public transportation is available, having own transportation will be helpful.
Work will take place at both the main office in the Penn Quarter, Washington, D.C., and at an off-site storage facility in Forestville, Maryland, with the bulk of the time being spent off-site. The D.C. office is Metro-accessible.
