Claudia,
I'm with Colorado Historical Society and am very interested in programs
we can develop for underprivileged or economically disadvantaged
populations. If you find anything please let me know. I do understand
that some museums offer social partnerships like outward bound or
something to offer new experiences for such groups. In terms of
humanities, the Smithsonian might have good programs, I do know they
offer some special tours and I'm sure partnerships with some of the
poorer schools in the D.C. area.
Let me know.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] looking for program examples that "fill a community
need"
Apologies for cross-postings.
I'm looking for national/international examples of education programs in
museums that fill a need in the community and reach out to underserved
audiences for a book chapter I am writing.
For example, at The NJ Historical Society we developed a program for
teen parents that filled the unmet need of a "cultural component" for
the population, teaching them how to take toddlers and young children to
a museum.
Another example is the Clark Art Institute in Massachusetts that offers
a program for juvenile offenders that offers an "educational enhancement
model" for the young offenders.
Please email me off list at [log in to unmask] if you
know of any programs/contact people for these programs.
Thank you! - Claudia Ocello
