The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is the nation's premier destination of heroism, adventure and fun, hosting over 750,000 visitors from around the world each year. Through the Museum's exhibits, educational programming and special events, visitors experience her rich history of service and learn about the humanity behind the hardware. The Intrepid Museum is looking for a Vice President of Business Development & Strategic Partnerships. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this VP will be responsible for the overall management of the Museum’s business development, strategic partnerships and marketing initiatives.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Serving as a key member of the executive team that sets the Museum’s strategic direction.
• Overseeing the Museum’s sponsorship, marketing, licensing and promotional activities utilizing the Museum’s various assets including, among others, its physical and intellectual property, media and other digital assets, exhibits, special events and educational programming. Overseeing visitor services including box office, tour guides, volunteers and docents.
• Spearheading business development and marketing initiatives that are consistent with and advance the Museum’s overall mission and strategy.
• Running multiple business initiatives in a dynamic and innovative environment.
• Generating revenue and developing and managing strategic partnerships.
• Leading initiatives that enable the Museum to extend its reach beyond its current audience and market.
• Directing a business development team and working closely with the Museum’s other departments to further the Museum’s mission.
• With the Executive Director and other appropriate personnel, developing and helping preserve the Museum’s copyrights, trademarks, patents and other intellectual property.
• Managing complex contract negotiation and working with legal counsel as required.
Requirements:
The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum requires a senior executive to lead its business development, strategic partnership and marketing functions through the formation of deals, partnerships and other initiatives designed to further the Museum’s mission and goals. The executive will need to actively lead these functions in an effective, proactive manner working closely with the Museum’s other departments and in concert with its various initiatives and programs. As a member of the senior management team, the executive is also expected to contribute to the management of the Museum as a whole.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 10+ years of business development, marketing, sales and/or related experience. Experience developing strategic partnerships and sponsorships as well as initiatives in a fast paced, multi-dimensional environment is required. A demonstrated ability to supervise, train, and motivate staff effectively, including team-building skills, is required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are also required. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of the Museum’s mission, market, audience, assets and the ability to optimize the opportunities that exist within each. A Bachelor’s degree in a business related field is required; an MBA or JD is a plus.
