I would definitely report any theft. Eventually, such a report should go to the police. However, it would be appropriate to first report this to your immediate supervisor.

However, I would suggest that waiting for the next Board of Directors meeting may not be feasible. For the police to have any chance of recovering these records/artifacts, the report to the police should be timely.

If the Board of Directors is your immediate supervisor, then I would suggest that you report it immediately to the President of the Board and ask his advice how to proceed.
