Hi
This is something you will hear that leather needs to be fed. Why? If
your artefacts are on display then why do they need to be supple? With
leather most materials that you put into the leather will eventually
find their way out. Like most things in conservation it is all about
leather.
Contact the leather Conservation centre in the UK , they will be most
helpful.
If in any doubt use a conservator.

Subject: Re: [MUSEUM-L] Mildew on Leather?
Thanks everyone for their suggestions. I'm still pondering this. I do
know that the humidity balance is off in that case, so that will be
fixed. As for the objects, I will continue to try to get as much of the
white and crystal-looking patches off and will refrain from adding any
type of wax to the leather. A theory was brought up to me though. This
professional said that leather needs to be "fed" to keep it supple and
"happy." He suggested neetsfoot oil. What do you all think of that?
