Something to consider when assessing whether a form of lighting is suitable for use to exhibit Artwork is the CRI or the Color Rendering Index of the light source.
In terms of displaying Art speaking in terms of light temperature is misleading.
The temperature refers to the overall color of the light. The CRI refers to the degree of accuracy that a given light source will depict the individual colors within a work of art. This has to do with the strength of the different wavelengths that it emits.
In looking into LED lighting which is thought to be the next big thing, the overall impression they create is fairly "white" so far though, their CRI is low. The result is often as bad as Flourescent lighting (even most color corrected versions flourescents are pretty bad).
Energy efficiency is a plus but in the context of displaying art one could argue that it is less important than actually seeing the color(s) of the artwork in question.
There are some good websites that can explain it much better than I can.

Updating your lighting, or changing light bulbs, is the most significant change you can make in any building. CFLs have improved in brightness, throw distance, beam angle and color temperature options. This makes them suitable for use in museums to accentuate artwork effectively while reducing electrical demand for lighting up to 75%. In addition, CFLs operate at a much cooler temperature than incandescent bulbs reducing the demand on air conditioning significantly. LEDs have also improved, and offer even greater savings in the long run, but they are extremely expensive upfront.
