We used Dibond in a gallery a few years ago. We specifically chose it because we needed a product that could "mold" around existing case components. By routing out grooves from the back, you have a form of signage origami. I was pleased with the final product. However, the graphics vendor ran into some difficulties with direct print to the surface. While it looks fine, the printing does scratch. So, just be sure to use a company that has experience working with the product. Yes, it's more expensive than other products. However, sometimes the most cost effective product isn't the right choice.
If you want more details about the project, feel free to contact me off list.
