Based on the lock boxes realtors in this area use, the key (to the house) is already inside the box which is opened by a combination by the realtor showing clients around. If you want to use a realtor's lock box, you'll have to distribute possible combinations, when the right combo opens the box, the key inside the box will have to open a cash box or locker where the prize is hidden.
The process above involves more steps than originally suggested so perhaps a locker that opens with a key (assuming the museum has those for staff or visitors); or a cash box that opens with a key (which most places have for a variety of purposes) would work better than the item commonly referred to as a lock box.
