The Admissions Representative position will demonstrate excellent customer-
service skills while selling and dispensing tickets to Newseum visitors.
Responsibilities, including but not limited to:
•Maintains an accurate cash drawer and record of ticket sales.
•Dispenses tickets as requested by customer.
•Demonstrates excellent customer-service skills and responds promptly to
customer needs.
•Able to work independently and handle admissions questions without
assistance.
•Assists the Visitors Services Department.
Minimum Requirements:
•Previous experience working with the public in a retail environment.
•Previous cash-handling experience required.
•Previous ticketing experience is a plus.
•Must be a team player, demonstrating flexibility and initiative.
•Must possess excellent communication and customer-service skills.
•Must possess basic computer skills and ability to write effectively.
•Must possess the ability to work with a diverse staff and public under fast-
paced, ever-changing conditions.
•Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays and
evenings.
•Ability to stand for long periods of time.
•Ability to lift 30 pounds.

The Exhibit Technician helps maintain, repair, fabricate and install exhibits as
part of the Exhibit Development staff.
Responsibilities, including but not limited to:
• Working with exhibits staff and fabrication vendors to learn exhibit elements
and installation methods.
• Setting up exhibit support for the new facility.
• Assisting with exhibit fabrication and with other projects as needed.
• Working on exhibit fabrication and maintenance, including repair of exhibit
components.
• Helping to maintain some lighting, electrical and plumbing elements.
• Maintaining inventory for stock items for fabrication and repair.
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree or greater, or the equivalent technical or professional
experience.
• Mechanical knowledge of exhibit case construction and general cabinet-
making skills, including an ability to fabricate base casework.
• Ability to build and repair all types of materials including steel, aluminum,
glass and fine wood.
• Ability to read and build from exhibit drawings and have experience working
with graphic elements.
• Have experience installing and maintaining electrical components and
specialty lighting in exhibit casework.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including on-call weekend rotation work.

The Exhibit Graphic Designer works closely with the Chief of Design and Senior
Exhibits Graphic Designer to design and produce exhibit graphics.
Responsibilities, including but not limited to:
•Design exhibit elements with an understanding of interpretrive environments
and 3-D spaces.
•Produce mock-ups and comps for presentation under tight deadlines.
•Produce fabrication-ready artwork under tight deadlines.
•Work with large digital image files.
•Organize, manage and track many exhibit assets.
• Maintain a design resource and sample library.
•Organize design packages and documents.
Minimum Requirements:
•Bachelor's degree or greater, or the equivalent technical or professional
experience.
•Three to five years of experience.
•Fundamental knowledge of effective graphic communication in an exhibit
environment.
•Working knowledge of Adobe CS3, including InDesign, Photoshop, and
Illustrator.
•Must be willing to work in a PC computer environment and have some
technical PC knowledge.
•Knowledge of graphic output processes and font management.
•Ability to be creative and productive under often tight deadlines and work a
flexible schedule.

The Visual Resources Assistant will work in the Visual Resources department,
which is responsible for the research, acquisition, cataloging licensing and
archiving of images for exhibitions, publications, merchandise and other
museum uses.
Responsibilities, including but not limited to:
• Digital image file management and cataloging support for an existing digital
asset management system.
• Create and maintain research logs for exhibits and logs for photos under
consideration during exhibit development.
• Organize research documents for future reference and use.
• Assist in trafficking digital and analog files to various internal and external
clientele as needed.
• Maintain library of original source digital materials for reference and retrieval.
• Re-house, label and file analog images and electronic media as required.
• Input technical photographic and descriptive metadata into digital asset
management system
• Assist in conducting photo research with stock agencies, libraries, museums
and online sites as required.
• Undertake general departmental administrative responsibilities.
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and at least two years of
experience or educational training in museum photographic department or
archive, library or archives, or photo research environment.
• Experience with digital asset management systems or photographic
databases.
• Exceptional organizational skills; strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize tasks and make
multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Be self-motivated, work independently and be able to work collaboratively
with staff.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, strong visual orientation,
strong computer skills, including experience with both PC and Macintosh
platforms, Photoshop and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of U.S. history and news events is important.
• The Freedom Forum/Newseum may require applicants to successfully pass
pre-employment background and/or drug screenings.
This is a full-time position based at the Newseum Support Center in Laurel,
Maryland. Some weekend work may be required.

Visitor Service Representatives (Part-Time) will assist in the delivery of an
exceptional visitor experience throughout the Newseum.
Responsibilities, including but not limited to:
•Provide outstanding customer service to Newseum visitors.
•Meet and assist visitors in all museum areas to include access control,
information desk, coat check, theater operations, gallery representatives, tour
group greeting and more.
•Be familiar with all museum galleries, exhibits, and events.
•Operate theaters and interactive equipment.
Minimum Requirements:
•Must be willing to function in all of the Visitor Services positions.
•Minimum availability of at least two full days or multiple evenings per week.
•Willingness to work a flexible schedule which may include weekends, holidays
and evenings.
•Must be a team player, demonstrating flexibility and initiative.
•Must possess excellent communication and customer service skills.
•Must possess the ability to work with a diverse staff and public under fast-
paced, ever-changing conditions.
•Interest in museums, history, and/or news a plus.
•Ability to stand for long periods of time.
•Ability to lift 30 pounds.
•High School Diploma.
•Basic computer skills.
