I recommend Bonsai Fine Arts - and use them for everything for the last few
years. They moved a couple of years ago and are now located in Glen Burnie
and have a brand new, huge climate contolled storage space. As a former
preparator, art handler and worker for many of the "larger" art handling
companies for years, I understand the business pretty well and I rate these
guys as much better than any of them, both pricewise and professionally - I
would recommend you at least call them to compare:

Becky, I have also had great experiences with Artex and believe they have the
facilities you need. Great folks and facilities.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Recommendations for moving/storing collections during
construction/expansion
Hi to all museum folks in the Mid-Atlantic area!
The State of Maryland is planning to expand the Maryland Archaeological
Conservation Lab's curation wing sometime in the next four-five years. I am
beginning to research storage facilities that could house the collections
during construction. At present, we have roughly 8,000 cu ft of boxed
collections and 6,000 cu ft of oversized objects. With an additional five
years of growth, we will more realistically be looking at moving and storing
10,000 cu ft of boxes and 8,000 cu ft of oversized objects.
Has anyone had to move/temporarily store a collection of this size before?
If so, do you have any recommendations for storage facilities that could
handle a such a large collection? We are also exploring the possibility of
on-site storage at the museum, such as climate controlled trailers, which
could be kept at the museum (which may or may not reduce the cost). We may
be able to handle the large oversized objects on site (as many are large,
several thousand pound steam engine parts) and move the boxed collections to
a storage facility. Realistically, we would probably need to store the
collections for one-two years.
Any suggestions or recommendations would be most welcome.
Thank you!
Becky
