Hi Everyone,
My apologies if I accidentally sent this message more than once (a bit of a glitch with the system...).
This student might really benefit from a book called "Museum Careers: A Practical Guide for Students and Novices," by N. Elizabeth Schlatter. The author breaks down the ins and outs, pros and cons, and various tracks for museum careers, how to break into them, first-hand accounts (including college and graduate programs)... in other words, many of the things you are all touching on here, but in great depth with much research to back her up. It's really an invaluable resource for anyone considering entering the museum field or changing directions within it.
Follow this link for more information on this book:

Good luck!
Best,
Stefania R. Van Dyke
