Using primary resources, especially at the high school level, is a
growing technique with history teachers. We've put together a kit of
reproduced materials that document the life and times of a teenage girl
from Maine who traveled to Lowell, MA in the 1840s to work in the textile
mills. Called "The Life and Times of Barilla Taylbor," the kit uses
Barilla's diary, letters to/from home, city directories, newspapers, etc.,
to create this person's life and times. It is available as a rental kit
for $40 per rental. Call the Tsongas Center at (508) 970-5080 for information
about renting "The Life and Times of Barilla Taylor."
