At the MCN conference this past fall, I was part of a session with a
new format that, from my viewpoint as a presenter felt far more
engaging. With 5 or 6 speakers, we each gave a 5 minute overview
(sans ppt) of our topic and then broke into round table discussions
for the next hour. The audience was free to go to each table for as
long as desired and engage (or not) as much as they wanted with the
speaker. As a speaker, it was nice to tailor the topic instantly to
an interested audience and be less generic in presentation. It
certainly felt like the information flow was much more valuable.
In my case, I was talking about our building expansion and the
associated technology both in-gallery and infrastructure-wise. I
tried to focus on successes and failures, so it was an easy topic for
me turn into an hour-long discussion with great questions from the
audience clustered around my table.
