Dear Colleagues:
The official papers now being distributed to all Member States of UNESCO
as part of the documents for the Autumn 2003 UNESCO General Conference
include a draft Resolution prepared by the Director-General on
the instructions of the Executive Board proposing that the forthcoming
General Conference should adopt an official UNESCO Recommendation
concerning the deliberate destruction of the cultural heritage - whether
in armed conflict or in other circumstances.
The text of the draft resolution and Recommendation is now available on
the UNESCO website in all six UNESCO official languages, including:
English:

French:
http://unesdoc.unesco.org/images/0013/001307/130780f.pdf
Spanish:

In view of events in many different parts of the world over the past few
years, I presume that ICOM members and supporters will want to give
this initiative the widest possible support amongst members and encourage
their National Committees in particular to press their governments on
the matter as well.
Best wishes,
Patrick Boylan
