Hi Laney
I suggest that you contact Jonathan Prown at the Chipstone Foundation as
their online collections have had great success with it. Questions of USERS
reached, how high should the resolution be... can be addressed by him.

In my opinion, a museum's ability to satisfy its mission to educate in the
21st century must be expanded to online researchers. It is a global world.
Yes, not all people interested in your collections will be able to travel to
your site, but if they become interested in particular objects, would they
not contact you for further information, purchase your publications or
otherwise contribute to the livelihood of your museum?
Best,
Ware

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] On-line collections
Hello everyone,
I am forwarding this query from a friend of mine. I was hoping to get some
feedback to share with her:
"I am looking for any data about whether content-rich museum web sites
result in increased onsite visitorship, or whether they have the opposite
effect?"
"I am running into some folks who seem to think that sharing lots of
content
online will cause people to NOT come to the museum itself, and was wondering
if any research had been done about this. I, on the other hand, would guess
that the opposite might be true."
If anyone has any thoughts/experiences with this, or any data regarding
attendance trends, please contact me. Thank you very much for your time.
Sincerely,
Laney McAdow
