This is a good question and I'll be interested in what responses you
get. I'm working with several small organizations which have valuable
collections and I'm not sure it's a good thing to present them online.
There is also the issue of releasing images into the public domain. We
had an example of an image that was lifted from another CT history org
website and the site on which it was found had it linked to a page that
said the image was in the public domain.

Many museums are considering putting their collection's database on

including photos of the objects. Having recently read older reports

thefts in museums - "smash and dash" variety - I wondered if there has

any evidence of these kinds of robberies (or others) in museums being
