I think the most compelling historic house tour I have experienced is the Levi
Coffin House in Fountain City, Indiana. What makes this tour compelling is the
building itself and its history. The house was the “Grand Central Station” on
the Underground Railroad. The tour was fascinating because it explained how
the intention to use the house as an Underground Railroad stop influenced the
design. Also there are plenty of very interesting and well documented stories
regarding escapes through the house. I had the opportunity to tour at night
which provided an added layer to the experience because the house has no
electricity. It is well worth the trip!
