Hello All! I just started a new position here and the task ahead of
me is recataloging, organizing and storing artifacts and archives that
have been haphazardly stored for the past 7-10 years. Right now i
have 9 sets of moveable shelves (originally designed for medical
files) that make up the bulk of my storage options. My question is:
What is the best way to organize my artifacts in storage? By
accession number (we don't have those for many objects)? By material
type? By subject? By collection? It's a historical museum and I
previously worked in natural history so any guidance as to what has
and hasn't worked for you in the past is greatly appreciated. I'm
inheriting a mess but want to start in the new building on the right
foot.
Thanks!
Heather
