receipt of applications will be November 10, 5pm Pacific Time. The list
of recipients will be announced on the VRA listserv the first week of
December.
A preliminary conference schedule with a listing of most workshops and
sessions will be posted by Monday, October 20 at http://vraweb.org (look

things are confirmed, so please check back regularly. Basic conference
costs are as follows (details will be posted on the website):
Pre-registration: $195 for members
Registration on site: $225
Room rates at conference hotel: $199+tax (Canadian $) for single or double

We have some very good news about the travel awards this year - we have
several new awards at all levels, and have raised the amount of many of
the awards. For 2009 we are able to offer:
- Eight awards of $850 each (formerly $750): 6 Tansey fund awards,
the Gallery Systems award and the Kathe Hicks Albrecht award (for a
first-time conference attendee)
- An international member award of $1,000 (sponsored by Saskia)
- Two "New Horizons" awards, of $850 each. These new awards are aimed at
members in the following categories: solo VR professionals, part-time VR
professionals, geographically isolated VR professionals, VR professionals
in smaller institutions, and/or first-time attendees
- The Joseph C. Taormina Memorial Travel Awards: 2 new top-up awards of
$250 each
- up to 6 Tansey Top-Up awards of $250 to $350 each, aimed at
supplementing the costs of attendees with partial conference funding
- A "New Horizons" student travel award of $300, for a full-time student
enrolled in an accredited degree program and considering a career in
visual resources
The application form will be available in the MemberClicks section of the
VRA website no later than the end of next week (October 24). Before you
apply, PLEASE READ "Travel Award Rules and Guidelines", "Tips for VRA
Travel Awards Applicants", and "Types of Travel Awards", all linked here
as PDFs: http://www.vraweb.org/organization/committees/travel/index.html
Two notes about eligibility: you must be a VRA member to apply for any of
the awards, and you cannot have won a VRA Travel Award in the last three
years (2006-2008).
Stay tuned and watch the VRA website for further details about the
conference. Please email if you have any questions not answered by the
documents noted above.
Best wishes,
Jackie Spafford
