Title: Manager of Special Events
Supervisor: Museum Director
Status: Permanent Part Time: 20 hours/month
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Lee-Fendall House Museum in Alexandria, Virginia seeks a Manager of
Special Events. The Manager of Special Events is responsible for a range of
outreach and marketing activities, as well as all activities associated with the
development, management and oversight of the museum’s private rental
program. Regular duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the
following:
(1) Promote and market the Lee-Fendall House as an event rental site,
which includes the development and implementation of an annual marketing
plan, broadening of constituency/client base and establishing and meeting
annual income goals. Plan, manage and execute approved annual rental
program budget. Provide timely reports; maintain files and financial records.
(2) Serve as liaison with prospective clients and oversee all event rental
contracts and logistics. Ensure all rules and guidelines governing the use of
the site are adhered to by rental clients and museum staff. Supervise event
staff as well as cleaning and maintenance vendors to assure the museum and
grounds are presentable.
(3) Work with both the general public and specialized audiences in
support of the museum’s mission. Assist with the museum’s public information
strategy to increase awareness of, and educate people about the museum
and its programs. This includes drafting and disseminating press releases,
public information documents, maintaining the website and contributing to the
development of the newsletter.
(4) Assist with other activities as requested.
Preferred Qualifications: College degree preferred in related field. Three to
five years of experience in marketing, meeting/event planning, coordination
and event management. Experience with historic house/site marketing is
preferred. The Manager of Special Events must be flexible and willing to assist
with all aspects of the organization’s work. The ideal candidate will be
outgoing and energetic, able to work with and provide exceptional customer
service to a broad and diverse public, and possess effective communication
skills, as well as excellent organizational, planning and financial management
skills. Ability to multi-task. Demonstrate initiative and resourcefulness. The
Manager of Special Events must possess an interest in history, a willingness to
develop knowledge of the Lee-Fendall House Museum’s history and
significance. The Manager of Special Events must possess a working
knowledge of basic computer applications. This position will require some
evening and weekend hours. Must be able to climb stairs and lift a minimum of
50 lbs.
