Christa:
I've stored hoops like you've described on deep shelves or in a large
drawer. Using a sheet of corrugated board or coroplast to give some support
when lifting/moving the hoop, and a muslin cover to protect from light and
dust. Another alternative, you could create a custom box out of acid-free
corrugated board to fit the hoops.
Good Luck!

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Storage of Dress Hoops
Good Morning All,
We have in our collection a couple of Pre-Civil War Hoops that go
under the dress. I was wondering how other museum's store their
hoops. Obviously hanging them causes strain and storing them in long
boxes can distort the round shape. I just need some ideas and
feedback. Please feel free to email me of the listserv as well.
