Joshua,
You should use the AIC free guide to conservation services where you
can search for a wooden artifacts or objects conservator in your area.
The web link is:
www.aic.standford.edu
You can also call nearby museums (perhaps Winterthur) for possible referrals.
When I was at Colonial Williamburg the objects conservator worked on a
couple of tobacconist figures for the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk
Art Museum there. You need to to have an idea if there are structural
/ loss compensation issues that need to be addressed, or if this is
primarily a cleaning treatment. Often those figures can have multiple
paint layers and thus understanding the paint history is important in
making decisions about how to clean and how to design the treatment.
Cheers!
Dave
