Besides "planting the seed" with the child, another goal of our preschool programs is to expose the *parent* to our museum, and as Katherine Chaison in Ipswich noted, the parents can choose to come back for another event... and bring the rest of the family, too.
Once a month we offer a story time with different themes (geared for ages 2-5). There's a story or two, craft, snack, maybe a song or game. Unlike the programs at the library, we do not prohibit parents from bringing the younger babies along with their toddler.
Other things we have, that are not "programs" but are geared for preschoolers: 1) in one farmhouse we have a felt board (made by a Silver Award Girl Scout) with the house, animals, and crops actually planted by the original owner of the house (based on his journal) that kids can play with, 2) we put a stuffed animal, our "museum mascot," in one of the buildings. Kids tell us where they saw him to get a prize (sticker).
