You are lucky to get the recent appraisal for insurance for the collection.
I have done work on other Mint collectibles for damage claims and they are a
bugger to research.
My observations:
Speaking as an appraiser, the insurance replacement value of Franklin Mint
stuff is off the charts compared to the Fair Market Value, a figure used by
the taxpayer for their charitable donation. Just wanted to get that out
there, you may already know it.
To have to locate and buy a replacement Mint piece that is retired is very
expensive.
To get rid of Mint pieces (fair market value) new or retired is very
difficult since NOBODY wants them. You are lucky to get pennies on the
dollar. Items that are so mass produced and are fads when created are dead
in the water when it comes to resale.
