Educational Curator I
Department The Jule Collins Smith Museum of Art
Position Summary This position is a full time position in the Museum
Education Department; some weekend work is required. The incumbent
will have responsibility over various curriculum-related services and
outreach efforts and will work to build and maintain relationships
between the Museum and area students and teachers as well as have
responsibility over in-museum family and children's programs. This
position reports to Curator of Education.
Major duties include but are not limited to:
Works closely with the Curator of Education in planning programs to
include: studio class program for children and families as well as
coordinates the development and evaluation of quarterly studio class
offerings for children and families, including the supervision of
registrations, attendance records, and supply inventory.
Family Days (Fall and Spring):
Coordinates and manages all aspects of Family Days, including
programming, supply inventory, audio-visual needs and volunteer
coordination; provides interactive activities and family guides for
exhibitions and permanent collection installations; coordinates
ongoing collaborative programs with community organizations such as
the Jan Dempsey Center and community schools K-12; provides school
and home school tours, which includes exhibition related teacher
materials. The incumbent is responsible for the development and
promotion of the interactive activities and guides for students,
teachers and families for exhibitions and permanent collection
installations, as well as assists with the development and promotion
of all educational programs and the use and maintenance of
audio-visual equipment.
The incumbent is expected to provide other support services as may be
required from time to time.
Minimum Qualifications The minimum qualifications are a Bachelor's
level degree from an accredited institution in Art History, English
or related field. The incumbent should possess the ability to
organize and prioritize work and meet deadlines as well as the
ability to manage multiple projects. The successful candidate must
exhibit strong problem resolution skills and attention to detail;
excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work
both independently and in a team environment with co-workers,
volunteers, teachers and the public is essential. Dependability,
multi-tasking and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic
environment are imperative. Must be able to work flexible hours.
Desired Qualifications Desired qualifications include a Masters
degree from an accredited institution in Art History, English or
related field, and experience teaching art and/or humanities in an
academic setting or working in a museum environment. Proven
administrative experience is also desired.
