Beau,
You can use a water-based polyurethane sealant but ensure that you leave
plenty of time, at least three weeks, for it to cure. Also, place air vents
in the plexi and put a barrier between the artifact and the latex, something
like Mylar.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Sealing wood
Hello,
I have a couple of questions. Are there any ways of sealing new wood so
that none of the acid or anything gets out of it into the interior of a
case? I was thinking of making a couple of new, small cases with some UV
blocking plexiglass. What about a calk-like material that is archival to
go between the pieces of plexiglass? Is there such a thing?
Also, I am part of the registrar's comittee and cannot seem to get onto
their listserv. Does anyone here know how to do that?
Thanks.
Beau Harris.
