The following Vacancy Announcement from the Institute of Museum and
Library Services (IMLS) can be read on the agency's Web site at

Vacancy Announcement: Research Specialist 

Closing date: October 25, 2007

IMLS seeks a research specialist to assist in the management of a number
of specific research efforts to understand the value of museum and
library programs (public access computing, grants to state libraries,
analysis of grant programs, youth programs, museum data collection,
etc.) 

Duties and responsibilities include registering receipt of proposals,
setting up peer review panels, managing advisory committee meetings,
maintaining regular communication with contractors/cooperators to ensure
that projects stay on schedule and proceed according to specifications,
and overseeing the OMB clearance process for information collection
prior to studies

Strong project management skills required, including ability to plan and
organize complex tasks. Candidates must have ability to communicate
effectively, both orally and in writing, be able to work with a wide
range of people within the agency, and in the research and
museum/library practitioner fields, have strong analytical capabilities,
and the ability to work with a range of software applications.

Knowledge of social science research field required. Knowledge of
library research field and of federal government clearance process
valuable, but not essential, as is experience working in a museum or
library. A bachelor's degree is required and a master's degree, or work
towards, is recommended.

This is a not-to-exceed two years position. IMLS expects to hire at the
equivalent of a GS-11/12 level. Position may be full- or part-time.
