When I was at Mount Vernon we used Elcanco starlite candles and had good
comments (www.elcanco.com). You have to purchase special
plugs/converters and there is a cord to deal with, but overall they are
easy to install and you can use monofilament to tie the cord to the side
of candlesticks, table legs, etc.
I'm likely going to use the same company for candles at my new site, so
please post to the list if you find better alternatives!

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Flameless or LED candles
Hi,
We want to purchase "flameless" (realistic LED) tapers for our historic
house for an evening event this fall. I searched the archive and the
last posting for this topic was in 2000, and there were no companies
suggested. Is anyone buying LED candles that they're excited about:
cost, appearance, operation? An internet search turns up a lot of
sources but I thought I'd ask museums and see what they're happy with.
We need tapers, without candlesticks or chambersticks, that we can put
in our artifact chandeliers and candelabras. Do commercially available
LED candles fit in older candlesticks or is that a consideration when
ordering?
Thanks,
