Perhaps this will be useful?
September 2, 1935 "we took drive out river side by St John the Diving & went
thru it then to way to see "The Normandie" picked Perry up at his office &
drove to Bronxville... had a lovely driver..."
Mamie McFaddin Ward was traveling with her mother to Canada and New England
in 1935. In September they were in New York City. McFaddin-Ward House
Archives, MLMW 59.
The Normandie cruise liner was worth a drive to see I gather. Interesting to
note that the entire trip was by car! Long way from Beaumont, Texas.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] seeking quotes about experience of air or boat travel
Help. If you know of a journal, diary, travelogue etc. where a vacationing
passenger described the experience of traveling by airplane or by boat in
the
1930s, please send info. I need the quotes for an exhibit.
Thanks!
Kate
