This is not so much a practical joke as a collective venture into
surrealism and one-upmanship.
I bring you the legend of "Zamboni day".
This occurred years ago on a busy summer day at a science museum in a
temperate climate. The staff had finished setting up for the day
early and were talking before opening. with one staff member that day
a hockey player and another a figure skater, the subject of ice
cleaning machines, Zambonis, came up. Everyone there agreed that
"Zamboni" was a great word. Somebody said it would be great if we
could talk about Zambonis. Thus was the challenge to find out how
many places could be found to mention Zambonis.
The following rules were quickly laid out as follows:
1. Any mention had to be relevant to the normal educational goals of
the exhibit. No complete non sequiturs allowed.
2. Any mention had to be fairly casual so as not to draw too much
attention or distract the visitors.
By the end of the day, Zambonis had been nearly everywhere. Many of
the visitors had a look on their faces like they knew something was
going on, but weren't sure what. Much more laughter than usual was
heard that day. Some of the topics included electrical engineering,
astronomy, geography, seismology, and the rock and roll laser show.
Looking back, the visitors that day interacted with a very busy staff
that was stiil extra gleeful and energetic, and the staff re-engaged
with the exhibits and had an opportunity to reexamine what they
talked about with visitors. If I were there to see it that is. :-)
Zamboni!
