Hi Elizabeth,

A great online reference is the NPS Museum Handbook. It can be found here:
http://www.nps.gov/history/museum/publications/handbook.html

Here are a few other sites you might want to check out:

http://www.cr.nps.gov/museum/publications/conserveogram/cons_toc.html NPS
Conserve-o-Grams "A Must Have!"

http://aic.stanford.edu/ American Institute for Conservation

http://palimpsest.stanford.edu/ COOL Conservation on Line

http://www.heritagepreservation.org/ Heritage Preservation

http://www.insectslimited.com/identiif.htm Insect Identification

For publications, I always have the interns read through "The New Museum
Registration Methods" (an AAM publication).

One of the best ways to pick up some hands on experience / knowledge is to
attend museum conferences (National, State, and Regional).

Best of luck!

Sincerely,
Michael M. Siebol
