The Dutch Italianates: 17th Century Masterpieces from the Dulwich Picture
Gallery, London
The Dulwich Picture Gallery, England’s oldest public art gallery, is lending for
the first time 40 influential paintings by the famed masters of the Dutch
Italianate style, available for a limited period. Normally on permanent display
at the gallery, these works are only available at this time due to temporary
gallery changes, a rare opportunity for US museums. The Dutch Italianates
features works dating from the 1600s to the 1700s and offers an exceptional
opportunity for US audiences to view paintings from this world class collection.
Included are masterpieces by Aelbert Cuyp, Nicolaes Berchem, Karel Dujardin,
Philips Wouwermans and Adam Pynacker. For many, this view of the Italian
landscape seen through Dutch eyes will be a revelation, allowing the visitor to
see some of the most beautiful paintings of the 17th century.
Available: For 10-week booking periods; June 2008 – October 2008;
February 2009 - March 2009; July 2009 - September 2009
