My clients who hire professional service consultants of all stripes
require both liability insurance ($1M plus $1M in umbrella/excess
liability) and $1M auto insurance, even if the consultants are just
doing office-type work. For some consultants they also require
professional liability insurance. My clients also require the
consultants to indemnify them.
The theory is, if something happens there will be a search for anyone
with deep pockets, and my clients don't want to be one of them.

Subject: Re: [MUSEUM-L] Consulting & insurance
Good to know! I just got a contract that stipulates I carry liability
insurance.
If it isn't an industry standard, I will let them know that. (They used
a generic
contract that they use for everyone from IT folks to marketing
consultants).
Thanks!
