If you are involved in field services, or contemplating starting an
outreach program in your state, consider joining the mid-year meeting
of the Field Services Alliance (FSA) meeting in Washington DC, March 29-31.
There is no charge for the meeting. It is an opportunity to meet
with colleagues who are involved in field services. Since our meeting
is in DC, we plan to take advantage of special opportunities and
expertise in the capital city. Attendees will have a choice of
visiting their legislators or meeting with staff at the National
Museum of the American Indian for a discussion about interpreting
Native American materials. We will also get tips on advocacy from
Esther Mackintosh, Director of the Federation of State Humanities
Councils, and we will have an interactive session with AAM's Beth
Merritt about collections planning. There will be updates on federal
formula grants, the AASLH standards project, some time spent
addressing the future growth of the FSA, and opportunities to share
concerns about the state of outreach services across the nation.
There is still time to reserve a room. We have a block at Club
Quarters ($139; $77 for Friday night; or a bit larger, Director
rooms, $156; $87 for Friday night.) If you are interested, contact
Carol Harsh at the Smithsonian by February 21, so that she can hold a
room for you. <[log in to unmask]>
