Hello once again (today is my day for ListServ questions).
I have a history professor colleague whose department will be launching an MA degree in Public History for 2008-09. They are thinking about including a graduate-level minor in history museum studies. I told him I'd ask the List for their thoughts on classes to include.
So, for all of you involved in history museums/historic houses/historic sites/living history museums, who could one day hire a graduate of this public history program, what would be the most useful museum-related classes to offer. The minor would be 3 or 4 museum courses --1 would be an introduction to museums, and it would include 3-6 credits of internship at a history-related museum/site. So, the minor would look like:
Intro. to Museums
________________
________________
possibly 1 more class _________________
Internship
So what classes would be best for the history museum field in these blank slots. Please note that they'd like to make the minor have 3-4 required courses, not 1 required and 2-3 electives, as they wouldn't have the funding to offer a large variety of electives each term.
Also, if anyone knows of an MA Public History program that offers a history museum minor, would you please forward me the link?
Thanks to all,
Keni
