Dear Ms. Snow:
Your recent email about finding a "good home" for your 1,350 pieces of
currency was brought to my attention today. In Library Special Collections
at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill we have an active
numismatic collection that numbers in excess of 10,000 specimens. While
the majority of our collection involves United States money and, more
specifically, southern currencies, we also have thousands of pieces that
represent countries throughout the world. In addition to researching and
documenting each specimen, we regularly offer numismatic exhibitions or
include selections of domestic and foreign currencies in a wide range of
social, economic, and political displays we present in the Louis Round
Wilson Library.
We are interested in learning more about your collection and finding out
whether you are seeking to maintain the collection intact as a full,
donated transfer to another institution or whether your repository is
seeking a buyer for the collection either in whole or parts. Thank you.
Respectfully yours,
R. Neil Fulghum

> Dear List
>
> We have about 1,350 coins and currency notes that have been approved for
> deaccession. Large portions consist of coins from the British Empire,
> Germany, and the US. There are coins and currency from a total of 48
> countries or provinces. The earliest dated are from the 1600's. Some of
> the unknowns are from a much earlier period.
> The only problem is we can't find a good home for them. If you are
> interested, please contact me and I will be happy to provide a more
> detailed list.
> Thank you,
