RRM Foundations Position Description
Education and Volunteer Coordinator
Department: Visitor Serices
Status: Non-Exempt
Supervisor: Director of Visitor Services
Effective Date: 01/05/07
Principal Function
Oversee the design and implementation of the educational program.
Coordinate with all associated departments on scheduling, programming,
staffing and implementation of the educational program.
Supervise the recruitment, initial training, placement and retention of
volunteers. Work with each department’s assigned volunteer coordinator to
maintain the volunteer database and resolve any volunteer issues.
Responsibilities
-Work with various departments to develop and implement educational
programs for the public.
-Work with the Director of Visitor Services to develop educational priorities
and an annual strategic plan.
-Promote Cantigny as a learning resource to the public and educational
community.
-Create and maintain relationships with local school administrations.
-Manage and look for ways to continually improve the Cantigny school tour
reservation system.
-Working with other resources in the Visitor Services Department, assure that
all school groups are properly greeted and informed upon arrival.
-Oversee recruitment initiative of qualified volunteers for all departments
requiring volunteers. Design and implement strategic plan for recruiting and
retaining volunteers.
-Ensure that prospective volunteers are interviewed and screened prior to
acceptance for training.
-Plan and implement initial organizational training program. Plan continuing
education for volunteers with volunteer committees.
-Update, revise and keep current the volunteer training manual, working with
staff, committees and others as needed.
-Maintain and update the volunteer database and other volunteer records
assuring confidentiality. Update and produce a volunteer directory annually.
-Direct a Volunteer Coordinators Committee; serve on other committees as
assigned.
-Oversee volunteer recognition. Plan and implement volunteer events, working
with volunteers and staff as appropriate.
-Contribute articles and other requested information to internal and external
media.
-All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field. A Minimum of three years
experience as an education/volunteer coordinator. Not-for-profit experience
helpful.
Considerable knowledge in the theory and practice of educational
programming.
Knowledge of MS Office software and ability to master other software
programs as needed.
Must be self-directed, creative, energetic, flexible, and organized with
excellent communication skills.
Supervisory Experience.
Valid IL Driver's License.
Able to work weekends and select holidays.
Must become trained in First Aid, C.P.R. and Automated External Defibrillator.
Must maintain valid certification.
