In November of 1991, a major scene for Tim Robbins'
satire film, "Bob Roberts," was filmed in the Music
Hall of the Andrew Carnegie Free Library in Carnegie,
Pennsylvania. The filming took a whole week, hence the
Music Hall was unavailable for other rentals during
that time period.
Although I do not remember the exact figure they were
charged, we used our regular rental schedule as a
basis, but we did charge them more for monopolizing
the Music Hall for that length of time. In this case,
the film crew was great and accomodated the needs of
keeping the Library available to the public.
Later in the 1990s, a major soap opera filmed a scene
using only the exterior of the Library building. The
scene was filmed at night, so it did not affect the
Library. Although, they did use the Library for
staging the filming, but they were charged a smaller
fee for this event. And, this rental only required one
night.
So, these types of rentals vary. If you have a regular
schedule of rental fees, start there--then, add on if
there are other requirements that need to be met for
the movie studio.
