Users of computers based on Intel's Pentium chip may be interested in this
simple test that I pulled off a WWW site
somewhere.
> Fire up your favorite spreadsheet and enter this:
> (4,195,835/3,145,727)*3,145,727
> The correct answer is 4,195,835
> A flawed Pentium will give you 4,195,579.
Here at MDA, a 3 month old Pentium 90 from dan Technology did have the flaw,
whereas a 2-week old machine from
Gateway 2000 using the same specification chip did not.
Intel are offering to replace the chips free of charge -- although it is not
really urgent unless you use
calculation-intensive software, it is probably worth getting the replacement
while it is still free. Intel in the UK are on
