Good evening,
I attended a conference in March sponsored by the Longwood Graduate Program and one of the speakers was the founder of the company, Guide By Cell. This company uses the cell phone technology for tours and from the activity we all took part in, this technology is relatively easy to use, but there are some issues. First, reception; if a person has no tower reception the tour is not going to affect them. Second, cost; if the visitor is touring at a time when their cell provider charges the most, the visitor is charged, thus turning visitors off in a heart beat. I've worked with John Buchinger and NYSHA with Podcasting and found it to be very easy to do. I, like John, would say a Mac with GarageBand is the easiest way to do it, but it depends on what platform you're using now.
Regards,
John

My two cents....we use podcasting to help generate interest in
events and lectures at the Western Museum of Mining & Industry. For example,
we may have a 3 minute piece on the speaker or musical group at a given
event and then two weeks before the event we do an email blast with a link
We have seen an increase in attendance since we started this....we use
Garageband for our podcasts, but have not yet tried vodcasts.

Buy a Mac and a video cam and that is all you need. The Garageband
application does everything you need to do. You can easily create short
films in iMovie, export to Garageband, and upload to iTunes.
But, you halve to ask yourself, who will use it? As a piece of interactive
content on the web it is great for promoting your institution, but people
still are not downloading them widely for museum use, and it is almost
easier just to go with the new cell phone technology.

We have been approached by a donor willing to fund the development of
Podcasting and while researching the ins & outs I ran across Vodcasting
(podcasting with video). I am hoping some of you who may have delved into
this will be willing to share your experience and the pro's and con's of
vodcasting vs. podcasting.
