I second Mark.  I researched this topic for an article in The Exhibitionist
a couple years back.  After talking with many people in the field, I can
confidently report that, in the exhibits field, a museum studies degree is
no longer looked upon as a negative.  At least in medium-to-large-sized
institutions.  At small museums, there is still a lot of suspicion about
having "too much book learning."  For other folks, a degree was considered
nice, but not essential, and certainly not as important as, nor a substitute
for, experience.  And I write this as one who supports museum studies, and
teaches in a program.
