Hello All,
We have been developing a feature rich, standards-compliant,
web-based open source collections management system for museums and
galleries and, after two years, are entering the testing phase. We
are looking for volunteer museums or galleries interested in working
with us to help test and refine the software. We promise it won't
take up too much time, and it can be done in the comfort of your own
museum! For those that we partner with, we will offer technical
assistance, early access to the finished product, and a reduced rate
on the software when it is complete. We are not limiting ourselves
geographically, nor by institution's size, though the software is
English-only at the moment. If you are interested, send me an email
at [log in to unmask] and we can talk specifics.
For those that aren't familiar with the term, open source commonly
refers to the source code of software that is available to the
general public with relaxed or non-existent intellectual property
restrictions. This allows users to create software content through
incremental individual effort or through collaboration. The browser
Firefox or the operating system Linux are great examples of open
source software. Wikipedia has an entry on open source software:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_source_software.
Cheers,
David Alexander
