As stewards of nearly 14 percent of New York City’s land, the Department
of Parks & Recreation builds and maintains clean, safe, and accessible
parks citywide and programs those parks with recreational, cultural and
educational activities for people of all ages. Through this work, Parks &
Recreation improves peoples’ lives, providing outlets for creative
expression, opportunities for healthy recreation, and exposure to the
restorative beauty of the natural world.
The Dyckman Farmhouse Museum has been open to the public since 1916. It
was designated a New York City Landmark on July 12, 1967. The museum is
owned by the City of New York and is an affiliate of the Historic House
Trust of New York.
Major Responsibilities:
Develop, implement and evaluate educational programming at the historic
site, including scheduling, tracking and teaching of school programs.
Ensure that educational programs support the interpretation and history of
the site, meet the needs of constituents and enhance the museum’s role as
a cultural institution.
Nurture relationships with area schools, educators and cultural sites and
explore opportunities for collaboration.
Work with the Director to recruit and train volunteer docents and
educators.
Support the Director in securing sufficient funding for the development
and continuation of educational programming.
Work with the staff and volunteers to coordinate special events, assist in
daily museum operations, and interact with museum visitors.
Preferred Qualifications:
a. Master’s Degree in Museum Education, History, or the Humanities.
b. Demonstrated experience in the development of interpretive and
education programs.
c. Excellent communication and community relations skills.
d. Spanish language skills highly desirable.
e. Highly creative, organized, and independent.
f. Ability to work with diverse age ranges, from school groups to adults.
g. Available to work weekends and occasional evenings.
New York City residency required within 90 days of hire.
Salary: $27,043 - $45,447
