The Queens Library Gallery (Jamaica, NY) announces an internship opportunity
for a college or graduate student interested in museum education. The
position will start in mid June 2007 and continue through August 2007 (dates
are flexible). Although this position is unpaid, the Gallery will gladly provide a
travel stipend and facilitate University credit.
This summer-long internship provides opportunities to work with a small
education staff in a fast paced environment. The intern will not only gain an
understanding of museum education, but also learn about curatorial and
exhibition development. The Intern would be responsible for the following
tasks:
• Collaborate with education staff to develop lesson plans for art
activities
• Assist with the development and implementation of public programs
• Help lead public and school tours
• Research play list for Gallery’s ipod listening station
• Research potential exhibitions as requested
• Assist with clerical work as necessary
Qualifications include knowledge of art history, art education, or museum
education; experience working with children; computer literacy, including
knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
Applicants should be professional, responsible and flexible with good
interpersonal skills. We are seeking an intern to work 15 hours a week, 2 or 3
days.
The Queens Library Gallery is located in Jamaica, NY at the Library’s Central
Location. Our mission is to foster an awareness of and appreciation for art,
history and international cultures in the Queens community – the most
ethnically diverse county in the nation.
