Good Afternoon Joshua,
My personal rule of thumb on marking/numbering small attached specimens
such as a shoelace attached to a shoe.....is:
1.) if the smaller specimen can be removed from the "mother"
specimen (i.e. a shoelace from a shoe) WITHOUT the use of a hand-tool
than the smaller specimen needs to be marked/numbered accordingly and
appropriately;
2.) if the smaller specimen CANNOT be removed from the "mother"
specimen unless one uses a hand-tool....then the smaller specimen does
not need to be marked/numbered accordingly, etc.....(for example, there
is no need mark/number a wheel on a stagecoach.
I hope this helps,
Best Wishes,
Wesley

Subject: Shoelaces as Objects
Was wondering what other institutions due to mark shoelaces that are
museum objects.
Could this be a time to use the dreaded tags?
