Amanda, when I worked for the Museum of York County in Rock Hill, SC, I
designed an inexpensive storage method for rolled African textiles. I
used the heavy-duty metal shelving strips and brackets you can find in
most Lowe's or Home Depot-type places. This is the type where you screw
the upright strips into the wall and then slide tabs on the brackets
into holes spaced along the strips. I used lengths of galvanized iron
pipe that we had lying around, probably a little over 1" in diameter,
and threaded them through archival cardboard tubing such as you can
purchase at Gaylord, University Products and suchlike. Each end of the
pipe was laid onto a bracket. The textiles were rolled around the
cardboard tubing and then wrapped with muslin or plastic as seemed
appropriate. I had to fasten stops to the shelf brackets to prevent the
pipes from rolling off the brackets - I forget what I used, but it could
be as simple as large binder clips. The shelf brackets were 18" long, so
you could put more than one tube on each pair if they weren't really
large diameter. I don't have any pictures, but I'll bet if you contacted
